Big Improvements for The Highlander!
- Faster Drive
- Better armor
- PNEUMATICS!
I made the chassis by printing out a drawing of the side rail, then tracing around the outline with a coping saw and drilling the holes with my drill press. The drive wheels also been upgraded from n20’s to 16mm kitbot motors!
The chassis is all UHMW with a 6061 baseplate. For drive, I 3d printed some motor mounts that bolt to the side rails and then glued some FingerTech foam to my Smol Hubs. The pneumatics are mainly components from Robart. I use one of their XS tanks, one of their rams, their infill valve, and their tubing. The valve is a tiny toggle valve I found on Pneumadyne that will be triggered with a servo.

Next, I made some wedges out of 1mm thick titanium. I put them in the vice and heated them with a torch and pounded them with a hammer until they were the shape I wanted.
Once again I am exactly 2oz overweight. Why does this keep happening. I trimmed some fat by drilling holes in literally everything. The big weight saver was swapping out the servo toggle valve with a tiny Xicoy solenoid one of the Bronco team members recommended. Then, with the infill valve mounted to the top, all I had to do was charge the tank with a portable air compressor each match, and I was ready to rock and roll!
